Types and characteristics of trailers

In the road transport of goods  may be used a tractor-trailer or truck with a trailer or trailers
There are several restrictions on the dimensions of vehicles:


 

Permissible  weight

The gross vehicle weight  is regulated by particular rules for each country.
In Europe, the permissible weight of the loaded set is from 38 tons to 42 tons.
According to Polish regulations limit truck weight can not exceed 42 tons. However, amount of weight is supported by each axle,the emphasis on individual axles can not be more then 10 tons. It also refers to the axis of the car traction.


Gross vehicle weight also depends on the number of axles and is:

- 16 tons for two-axle vehicle

- 32 tons for a vehicle or a four-axle set

- 40 tons  for vehicle or combination of 5-axle set

- 42 tons for the vehicle or combination of 6-axle set

Loaded weight exceeds the normal road set up to 1cm causes the carriage is treated as oversized.

Maximum Length

The maximum length of the trailer set in Europe is 18.75 meters.

The maximum length of a set of trailer is 16.50 m. Semi-trailer may not exceed 13.60 m and capacity to 34 pallets EURO

Maximum Width

The maximum width of the trailer is 2,50 m.

For refrigerated vehicles is 2.60 m (bunker width to 2,42m)
Exceeding the maximum external dimensions causes the carriage is treated as a oversized.


Maximum Height

Maximum height is 4.00 meters

Exceeding the maximum external dimensions causes the carriage is treated as a oversized.

Floor Height

Floor height of trailers with  standard wheel sizes is about 1.20m.
